Catholic Healthcare are delighted to have been shortlisted as one of the finalists in the HESTA Compassion in Action Social Justice Awards 2021.
Our Hoarding & Squalor program ‘Buried in Treasures’ has been nominated as an inspiring example of the unique role that Catholic organisations play in achieving equity for marginalised people in our communities.
The Buried in Treasures program is a 15-week online course to support people who have a tendency to accumulate excessive items. It is open to people across NSW who are eligible for the government’s Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). The target audience are people over 65 years living at home and people over 50 who are at risk of homelessness. The program enables participants to meet like-minded individuals and to learn practical strategies to overcome their hoarding tendencies.
Catholic Health Australia (CHA) is hosting a special webinar on 29 October at 11.00am, where each of the three shortlisted finalists will have the opportunity to present a short thesis outlining their respective programs. The judging will take place ‘live’ and the winner will be announced at the conclusion of the webinar. The winner will receive an award and a $5,000 prize. The panel of expert judges includes Julien O’Connell AO, Board Director CHA and Virginia Bourke, Board Director, CHA.
Congratulations to our Hoarding & Squalor team for this wonderful achievement!
