Be prepared
Look for early signs
If you’ve noticed that your family member or loved one may need support with their day-to-day living, it’s best to look into Care options early. Identifying the need for Aged Care Support before a health condition deteriorates can help maintain your family member’s health and wellbeing for longer. For more information, read this handy guide on spotting early signs.
Plan ahead
Make the change to Aged Care for your loved one as seamless as possible. Give yourself plenty of time to consider the right options for your family member, and ensure your application for the applicable government subsidy is in place before moving in. Planning ahead can make the move to Aged Care a lot easier, both emotionally and financially.
Have an open conversation
Few conversations are harder than speaking with your parent or spouse about their need for Aged Care Support. However, having an open and honest conversation with your loved one and involving them in as much of the decision making as possible, can be greatly beneficial. It’s common and completely understandable for people to feel anxious about a loss of independence or a change from their familiar surroundings.
