When the staff and residents got together this week at Jemalong Residential Village, it was a marathon of three celebrations in the one day!
The morning kicked off with Christmas in July celebrations. Staff and residents dressed-up in their best Christmas clothes to enjoy some yule time fun. A festive morning tea included old favourites like ‘white Christmas’ and Christmas cake, while the residents sang their hearts out to Christmas carols.
After lunch, it was time to do a ‘superman’ quick change as the residents transitioned to a State of Origin mindset. Whether red or blue, the residents changed into their supporting colours. A mini-round-up of the first two matches was shown on the big screen, while the residents munched on pies, sausage rolls, frankfurts and mini-quiches and got into the State of Origin spirit!
In the afternoon, the third instalment of the celebrations took place, as residents took a virtual trip to France to celebrate Bastille Day. The staff organised for some entertainment and research on the origins of the day for the afternoon, to enable an ‘arm-chair’ travel across the seas.
“It was a very informative session and I was excited to see different parts of France – it was like being there,” says Joyce, resident at Jemalong.
What a day for the residents and staff at Jemalong!
