The ‘Lavender Legends of Lourdes’ were featured today in a Dubbo Photo News article.
The article features the impressive work of the Lavender Legends - a group of volunteers who help out at Lourdes Hospital & Community Health Service in Dubbo. For the last five years, these ladies have been making a vital difference in patients’ lives through their volunteering.
Dawn and Sheila (pictured above) are members of the Lavender Legends and have both been volunteering at Lourdes Hospital for the last four years, visiting the hospital each Friday and generously dedicating their time assisting patients at the hospital.
As volunteers, Dawn, Sheila and all the Lavender Legends, spend quality time interacting and chatting with patients, as well as helping out with the laundry, assisting with gardening and maintenance work, flower-arranging, folding ward linen and helping patients with their customer feedback.
“Patients tell us how much they appreciate the volunteers,” says Dawn. “Social interaction and communication often complement their palliative care and their recovery process.”
The Dubbo Photo News article states that the Lavender Legends are highly valued in the Lourdes team for their contribution in enriching the lives of patients as they help to meet their social, emotional, physical, mental and spiritual goals.
The article talks about the benefits of volunteering such as having regular contact with others and its positive effect on psychological wellbeing. Volunteers also see their actions positively affect those around them and develop a sense of pride.
