Catholic Healthcare’s Volunteer Phone Call Service provides additional support for Home Care clients who are experiencing social isolation. The complimentary service has now been expanded into regional New South Wales and south-east Queensland, after operating successfully in Sydney for 12 years.
Our team of trained volunteers operate the service and are collectively managed by a paid volunteer coordinator. All of our volunteers are trained in professional conduct and are able to provide social support calls, with boundaries.
- Clients opt to receive friendly weekly phone calls from a selected volunteer who shares similar interests, background and language.
- The volunteer phones on a scheduled day and time each week, so the client knows when to expect the call.
“Our Volunteer Phone Call Service is aimed at providing clients with an additional social contact. The scheduled phone calls provide clients with an opportunity to chat about family, news, sport or hobbies. The volunteer can often provide a new window to the world for someone who is isolated and lonely,” says Chris, Volunteer Coordinator, Home and Community Services, Northern Sydney region.
“We also take the time to carefully select a suitable volunteer for each individual client, so that they are appropriately matched.”
